When watching your favorite science fiction, fantasy or horror its always amazing to see the type of things they can come up with that don’t actually exist in real life. The amount of technology used to make the characters come to life can be quite mind boggling but for people involved in the field it boils down to two things; Animatronics and CGI.
Animatronics is the use of robots to imitate human or animal movements, that can make an ordinary inanimate object come to life and CGI stands for computer generated imagery and fortunately is self-explanatory. Within this field is a number of other complimentary fields which help with the end product such as robotics, engineering, anatomy and make up artistry just to name a few.

Early uses of animatronics would have been see in films such as Star Wars, Jurassic Park and Furby, and more recently, with better execution as a result of the increased technological capabilities in Star War: The Last Jedi, Justice League, animations and the series Game of Thrones would have used a combination of animatronics and CGI in the aforementioned.

Persons in this field have to very talented as you have to be able to conceptualize something which may no have a direct frame of reference and made up of several parts to become 1 creation with various abilities, depending on the requirement of the role. They also have to take into account external feature which may affect the construction and final look of the creation, such as the exterior and what would cover it for example hair or fur or both.
As technology continues to evolve and advance, and be able to be more independent of human persuasion and manipulation, we look to the future with great excitement to see what they will think of next to continue to wow us on our screens.
